    Most Popular Fly Rod Weights

I’m always wondering, when deciding to build a rod, what size and weight rod people on this site would be looking for. The most all-around rod is probably a 9’-6#, good for The Sound and lakes. What do you all think? 4#, 8#, ?#…I use a couple 6# and a 4#, plus a Switch rod from the beach..

    Oarlock height extension.

I’m wanting to install a 4”or 7” seat pedestal in my pram this Winter to get me in a more comfortable position. I’m sure I’ll have to raise the oarlocks also to accommodate my higher sitting position. Is there any standard rule on doing this? Any ideas or observations would be greatly appreciated.

    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

A moderate flex rod loads easier for shorter cast and when needed you can muscle it for longer ones. You might be surprised how well a 7’6” or 8’ rod cast. If you over line them 1 or 2 weights they preform better for close in work by loading on a shorter back cast, something to think about on...

    How many rod outfits.?

I’ve had two 4# intermediate lines and neither one would sink properly. So I now use a type 3 with success. Perhaps those lighter weight lines are just to physically light to work.? Using unweighted flies or beadheads as needed work to get you to the desired depth..
