Up at the crack: fishing day breakfasts?

I was raised having big breakfasts. From hunting and fishing to home for working at farms and my blue collar jobs from 16 until the day I retired (big breakfast wasn't as needed my route my last decade).

That was very big on my Dad. In camp a big breakfast and usually snacks for lunch (though occasional burger or dogs on the water). We did have a few restaurants we would eat at if we were running down for a one day trip. Breck showed one of mine. Here's a few more. And I love doing breakfast burritos in camp.

5:00 am...coffee (good coffee) brewed, and all ready for me, from a timer.
Then a bagel. Bagels are magical. Put some butter on it, broil it for 4 minutes in the oven..then creme cheese spread. There are different bagels and different spreads.. This helps in regards to the coffee eating away at my stomach lining. Once I get on the boat, I start to eat the best fruit I can buy.
Never underestimate the power of a toasted bagel with creme cheese.

Big bagel fan here! I've been getting whipped cream cheese lately and really like it.

I love breakfast and the stuff some of you guys cook up looks just awesome.

But I love fishing more and making those big breakfasts take just too much time. I need to get up (already too early) and just hit the road. Plus if I was banging around the kitchen making all that racket I'd be in hot water with management....lol

Oh, I dunno, make ahead a day or two before and throw in the nuke the morning you need it. Microwave chimes don't make all that much noise.

Also, have any of you contemplated using an electric lunch box, aka truckers lunch box? Amazon has a boat load of different ones available. Battery powered, 12vdc, 12vdc/110v, etc.

Would take care of those heating enroute issues, and even give you a hot meal on the boat, depending on what your boat is.

Jack in the box. Seriously. You can get a darn good breakfast plate, with eggs, pancakes and bacon, hash browns, apple juice, orange juice ,, whatever...
If you are rushing to get out on the water, and need a quick breakfast, this is a viable option.
But having to throw away your waders after every fishing trip could get pretty costly.

Alright I’m trying this breakfast burrito thing, and took it to mass production level. Taking orders right now!

All kidding aside, this should be great for the kids and my lunches. Tortillas and cheese 30 seconds in the microwave, scoop in the scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage and salsa verde, wrap up and let cool. Pretty fast assembly line, had a pile before I knew it.

If I'm fishing on day trips, I'll rarely do a ton for breakfast, sometimes a breakfast sandwich or something like that, but often we'll do wings or tri-tip sammiches dipped in au jus for a late lunch (or early dinner....usually signifies the end of a fishing day since no one really wants to fish on that full of a stomach). If I'm going solo, it's not much.

When I'm camping, I keep in simple with bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs....I make exceptions to that rule when at the Official Forum Swap & Shop up at Mayfield....then it's pure gluttony.

Good dark roast coffee, black….none of that foo foo shit for me.

Other than that, it really depends on the situation. If it’s dawn patrol, which I rarely do anymore, probably just throw a protein bar, or two in my pack.

When camping on the river, which is my typical MO these days, I typically do pre-made b fast burritos. I usually freeze a bunch of em. Meal prep has become a bigger part of my life these days. Made from whatever I have on hand….egg/potato/sausage/cheese…sometimes venison and/or chanterelles.

I put more effort into dinner typically…b fast and lunch are grab and go fish for the most part.

I’m also in the Bob’s Red Mill oats camp. Make 2 cups of oats worth at a time and refrigerate, serve cold with whole milk, yogurt, blueberries and raw almonds.
Yesterday I went to a restaurant near me that I have wanted to try for years, their chicken fried steak is legendary. I saw one being served before I ordered and decided I just wasn’t that hungry; the steak was as big as a dinner plate and came with 2 eggs and potatoes. Ordered their breakfast burrito instead. Eggs, ham, chorizo, peppers and potatoes. Ate 1/2 and remainder was dinner.

I’m still down 20 lbs post cancer so I don’t feel too bad eating like this once in a great while.
