...and it's over $900!!!

I have a 4wt and a 7wt, and I always wished they made an 8 to use on the coast, but at that price, yikes. It's a bummer we've inflated up to this point, I guess when there are $1700 dollar rods on the market, $900 is now "mid-range".

Not to be a smart ass but what is short Spey? A new term?
Basically what I thought was the 12’ as the mark as in anything under was a switch rod and above was a Spey.

Real short spey? Is the rod different? Curious.

And yes at one time 900.00 was premium now it’s becoming higher mid price. Just wow 😮

The TFO Deer Creek switch rods will probably outperform and will definitely outlast them, and for 1/10 of the price!

Part of what makes a switch rod a "switch rod" is the action, not just the length. They tend to be faster action, which lends to being able to overhand cast better (the "switch" is being able to spey or OH cast). The propaganda of the Loomis short spey is that it has a more traditional spey rod action. They came out in the late teens and seemed to be pretty well received. I got a 7 and a 4 and love them both. I really enjoy the 4, at the time, most trout weight two handers were well under 12 feet. There weren't a lot of 12' or longer rods in the trout weights.

Loomis quit producing them during COVID and then came out with a "version 2" a couple years later, which were just straight up normal switch rods. They were just a hair over 11 feet instead of just a hair under 12 feet, and the action was changed to a faster "switch rod" action. Why they made that choice, I don't know. Maybe for the Great lakes and trout spey markets where people are more reluctant to fish 12 foot or longer rods. But now they brought these back. Why? Dunno either.

Well just for fun I picked up redington series trout Spey. 11’3 4 weight 4 piece. Came with redington reel 7/8 size. 325 skagit and a Rio tip 10’ 5 floater and 5’ sink Got it
For well under 200.00 bucks. Score Sierra.
