Thanks.

Mark if you can stay a few nights in Moab there are no shortage of tours you could do to see some of the sights with someone else driving, including offroad, may not be fishing related but still cool. If you were up for some day trips Goblin Garden state park, Arches, Canyonlands etc are always cool. The driving tour around Colorado National Monument is also spectacular if you are coming in from Grand Junction. August could be very hot in that part of Utah

There are a number of motel/guided trip deals in Dutch John for a Green River float. Do a google search and you will find choices. That being said, expect food cost unusually expensive as DJ is remote and has limited options for food

Do you mean the Flaming Gorge area Green River on the Utah/Wyoming border, or the Green River in Southern Utah?

IMO, Utah is uninhabitable during August; maybe, but just barely in September. Do you have that time period locked in?

We would just head for the mountains that time of year. Flaming Gorge is pretty nice as is the High Uintas, just outside of Manila, near Dutch John. Now, the town of Green River, Ut.? Salmo is right, too damn hot, tho their melons are quite refreshing..

Ive fished The Green a little. Not at that time of year though. April and/or June can be very good. I haven't been for a couple years now. Go to Trout Creek Flies in Dutch John. They have some lodging. Red Canyon Lodge was really nice lodging too. The lodging at Flaming Gorge Resort was descent too, convientant. Fishing at little hole boat launch can be really accessible and productive. Walk the entire park bank all the way up the river trail. If you can make the hike to Caddis Wall from Little Hole its worth it, 1.5 to 2 mile hike. We set up camp there, there is a beach... that time of year might be swamped with rafters, it will be. Get there early stake out a spot. The wall will give you shade and its a great wading area. Even better if you can cross about a mile down river and make it up to Caddis Wall. But its not an easy crossing at 900 cos or more. If your down to 800 or less it might be doable and worth it. If you can afford it float the A section, it is amazing. Drop down to B section look up Jarve Ranch. There is a bridge over the Green down there and go across and some backroads lead to some areas you can get to be by yourself. Or stay of the Jarve Ranch side- there is a campground further down the road. Check out the Museum at Jarve Ranch.

Best fishing (and scenery) is generally in the Flaming Gorge sections. I usually wet wade it and stay reasonably comfortable. Best plan seems to be to fish the AM until it gets hot and the bugs slow down, go get lunch and a nap, then head back late afternoon to fish the evening hatches.

One of the several outfitters in Dutch John can probably get you in a guide boat on short notice. Most offer single section floats as half day trips and two-section floats as all dayers. I did a float on the A section two years ago June, and the scenery alone was worth the cost, but the dry fly fishing was about as good as it gets. This was peak caddis season....

Mark,
Assuming you’re looking at Flaming Gorge area due to the ask about fishing options, plus food and accommodations. I’ve stayed in the area multiple times and different seasons.
Accommodations: There are multiple options but the two I’ve always used are Flaming Gorge Resort and Red Canyon Lodge.
FGR is about 30% less expensive than RCL with a decent restaurant, clean rooms, excellent internet, along with a good shop for most anything you might need for recreating. Two couples would work fine there. We, my wife and I, when staying there always book in the section up behind the shop and restaurant. They also have a laundry house if you need it. 15 minutes above DJU.
Red Canyon Lodge is about 20 minutes above DJ at about 7K’ of altitude. It has a small shop, good restaurant but only dinner is served. Beautiful area with cabins, some connected doubles which would work. Internet is iffy at times but sitting on the deck taking a nap at 330 pm ain’t bad. When Sitting on the deck drinking coffee at 0500 the silence is deafening and all is good in the world.
Multiple opportunities to book a float on the Green and I highly recommend it. A section, the canyon. Is an awesome float, B section after Red Creek is mor subtle and the C more flat water but evening streamer fishing for cannibles is an option. I’ve always used Spinner Fall for floats but that is more due to the first time fishing there some time ago that they were able to hook me up in less than 2 hours. They’ve always been great. I’ve heard great things about Trout Creek Flies also.
Due to the recent weather and lack of snow pack this year things might be quite different on the river at your time of year and who knows if that might contribute to an extreme opportunity during fire season.
We have always taken two or three days of our time there just to travel some of the back roads, forest roads, and at times no roads to just embrace the opportunity. We’ve always departed there thinking … we should have…could have.. why didn’t we..
Good luck whatever you decide.

Red Canyon Lodge is nice, and the restaurant is really good, considering the area. What hasn't been mentioned is that Red Canyon Lodge has a private C&R lake for the renters. We would fish the river in the morn, head back to the cabin for a rest, then fish the lake in the evening.

Been awhile since I've fished the Green below Flaming gorge dam if thats where you are headed , but that time of year you can expect to have lots of company .
