Yellowjackets With An End Of The Season Vengeance!!!

peppermint oil is a great deterrent for ants, wasps, yellow jackets, pecking birds, spiders, etc....I mix it up into a one gallon garden sprayer and walk around the house shooting everything from the roof down...siding, foundation, eaves, etc.`

Spiders? Had a little black/greenish one drop down from under the credenza right in front of my face while on the computer! He landed on my mouse but did not live for very long. Sprayed it with 90% rubbing alcohol and went promptly in a plastic bag, tied and in the sealed garbage can.

But how can you be sure that's enough?

You need the SpiderBazooka(TM)

"SpiderBazooka. When you need to be sure."

I was stung last week, fishing on the St Joe river. I haven’t been stung in years and never had any kind of effects from them before. This one, swelled like a mother and turned my entire arm red. My arm muscles hurt for days. Less than a week and everything is fine now. Might be me getting older or the bugs getting stronger. It sucks either way. Take care of it.

I find stings from Bald Face hornets to cause the most pain and lasting symptoms. Maybe it's the type or volume of the venom those aggressive bastards employ.

I was cleaning gutters, trimming branches and de-mossing the roof today and found a nest. I think they might actually be paper wasps but I still got stung once on the top side of my wrist. That section of gutter didn’t get cleaned. The tiny hole they seem to be using goes into my mostly inaccessible heavily insulated attic. I ain’t going up there to mess with ‘em. They haven’t been an issue like being aggressive in the yard or anything, and the rain and cold are coming so I’m thinking we can live and let live for now anyway. I’ll try to remember to plug that hole this winter.
i think its better to plug hole after they leave the nest for the day?? but dont know the timing.

They are still coming and going all day. But there will be a point this winter when they don't. That's when I will take action. I don't care if I trap all their little incubating larvae and whatever adults are trying to overwinter and they end up dying up in my attic.

Yellowjacket reaction update , it's now been 2 1/2 weeks.

I researched the price of Epipens and WOW!!!
However, I did find this which looks promising if true.

Adrenaclick (generic): $10 at CVS

Up until this fall, generic Adrenaclick has been the single competitor to EpiPen. Using the exact same drug (epinephrine) and similar technology to inject the drug yourself, it had been priced at just under $300 for a two-pack.

Then, through a deal with the manufacturer, CVS was able to lower the price to $110 last month. Apply a $100 discount coupon from the drug's manufacturer, and that will get you to a final price of $10. You can buy up to three two-packs at that price with a prescription.

Best of all, no insurance is needed. The deal won't work if you try to use the coupon with Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal or state insurance. If you are covered by any of those, simply instruct the pharmacist to not run the purchase through your insurance.

I have an appt at my cancer clinic this morning and there's a CVS about a block away so I'm going to check it out.
Also, I'm back in Spokane so am going to see when I can get in to see my primary Doc.

I've had several yellow jacket ground nests in my yard over the years and found each one by getting alerted to their presence by being stung. Each time I bought can of insect killer, don't remember the brand, and waited till sundown when those buggers were all in their nest. I sprayed the entire can into the hole and then plugged the hole. Next day no bees. It's worked perfectly every time. I admit I'm one of those lucky ones that stings don't seem to bother me much, just painful enough to piss me off but the pain goes away in under an hour. I do have friends with allergic reactions so I make sure my yard is safe as possible.

I got stung by a wasp recently (2 stings inside my shirt) and quickly took some fern + some plantain leaves, put in a small bowl with some a few drops of water and some baking soda. Smashed it all up into a paste. Applied to sting. Was like I never had a sting just a few hours later - barely any lingering mark and no swelling. Previous to that had gotten stung by one of my own honey bees and it swelled up and itched for a few weeks. Before that a hornet out in the back country - hurt like hell for hours and was swollen and itchy for a few weeks.
