Don’t even go there about closing hatcheries. Those in Olympia love any excuse to shut fishing and hunting down. The Wallace hatchery does a fine job of producing fish as can be seen this year with 6,000 plus chinook returns. We just have to keep pounding on the state for our opportunity !! And...
Non tribal recreational fishing gets stabbed in the back again and again. No surprise. Heck they dredge up any and every excuse to close the Snohomish system now. Oh but tribal netting is ok even for chum.
I can see this same garbage coming to the Skagit real soon. And check the chinook returns...
What BS. Total Incompetence. So mismanaged the salt fishery and now the river fishery suffers. Way to go. Another failure by WDFW. And is the salt fishery still open ? And they say under escapement last 2 years ? So why was salt fishery open with liberal limits ?
Read the article in NW Sportsman.
It was the WA state DNR that screwed up (Shocker). And “Navigable Waters “ is Federal ! Of course with the crap judges here this might have to go to federal court ?
Bad enough the tribes dictate when they are fishing and how long and how much as they don’t ask...
Ah finally some truth. Another tough part is the temperature of the water early in the season. We (friends with boats) have found as we get rain (even small amounts) and cooler nights the fish start to get a little snappier. Last year was a very odd year as the run size was large there were...
I think its tail wagging the dog has a lot to do with it as in tribal & WFC . Such as tribal telling WDFW they are fishing the Skagit. No ask just telling them. Who can blame them when fisheries know salt water guy’s are going over the projected numbers but keep the salt fisheries open anyway.
still looking for a fly that snohomish coho will bite ?
Hate to put on a dick nite out of frustration, but sometimes. Have tried the tiny stuff some use on the stilly with no luck.
And now we have a limit reduction on coho for areas 8,9.
So why didn’t WDFW limit it sooner if they knew the limits were going over ?
I know why ask why when it comes to management or total lack of.
Yes it still is no where near the run it used to be. But with the brood stock efforts we have seen some improvements. Just need to keep it up. With only enough impacts for one or two days fishing why open it at all ? Let folks go to MA 10 like they do now anyway. Open the river September 1st for...
Don’t want to take away anyone’s opportunity, heck us river fishermen have had to take All the abuse for the sake of marine salt fishing folks but I get it It’s all about money not conserving runs. Easy answer is a broodstock program but as always “we don’t have the money “. Hmm worked for...
Appreciate the effort & trying to change things.
I will try to remember to submit a report.
But I am afraid the Department is So corrupt and the Very strong influence from the tribes I don’t hold out any hope in the future.
