I'm blaming it on the enshittification of Google. I cannot seem to find a diagram for a lake leader for fishing a balanced leech with a bobber/indicator. I'm fishing smaller lakes around Mt. Hood and SW Washington. How long do you make your butt section? Is that just tied to a tippet ring...

It would be an upper Columbia steelhead that spends its time at sea wherever coho are apparently spending their time at sea.

July is done, 7,924 fish counted. Steelhead will close August 15th. We need a bit over 15,000 wild fish to pass during the month of August. Looks like we need to average around 500-ish fish every day to have it re-open on September 15th.

What's weird is other rivers are "normal" (for the current age), or even a bit above normal in terms of numbers. Some of those are skamania fish, though. Lends credence to the "progeny of the worst year on record" theory.

Maybe they are hanging out with all those steelhead that aren't showing up.

Puget sounders, I will be around point no point at the end of this month. It is a family trip, so I can't be picky with my tides or beach, but I will be having beach time. Is it worth it to bring a 5 or 7 weight and some wee clousers and squid/shrimpy flies?

Wild fish numbers really need to start skyrocketing for August to be open.

Even though it started open this year, we still have to hit numbers on the Deschutes to have a season. If we don't hit the July numbers, it's closed until the end of August and then you need enough July+August numbers to have a season in the fall.

Part of what makes a switch rod a "switch rod" is the action, not just the length. They tend to be faster action, which lends to being able to overhand cast better (the "switch" is being able to spey or OH cast). The propaganda of the Loomis short spey is that it has a more traditional spey rod...

...and it's over $900!!! I have a 4wt and a 7wt, and I always wished they made an 8 to use on the coast, but at that price, yikes. It's a bummer we've inflated up to this point, I guess when there are $1700 dollar rods on the market, $900 is now "mid-range"...

Man, I love that area! I've fished a few of the creeks around town, but haven't spent much time on the Animas.
