Nice reminder to avoid hooking the downstream smolts @PhilR ! Choose your water and hook size carefully.
Just did a week on the JD and saw half a garter sticking out of a bush. Did a little yelp but fortunately it was the back half so no worries. I always fish with my dog, but no go on the D until October now....

It's such an interesting genera. Of all of the snakes I've kept as pets over the years (currently down to one 26 year old Dumeril's Boa), specimens of the Pituophis genus seem to (apologies for too much anthropomorphizing) be a bit more attentive to people around the cage....a little bit more than just a feeding response since I tended to handle them a little more than the others...always seemed very interested in what was going on outside of their enclosure.
