This one is 81/2 ft slight swelled butt, 2 tip. The tips are different weights and diameters. The light one is 10g and the heavy one is 15g. I've seen the Haywood name associated with Phillipson but their Haywood is a spin/fly, 7ft if I recall correctly. Any guesses are welcome, I've never been able to track down who made this one. apologies for the quality of the pictures, point and shoot camera and new to me.

Colorado Cane says Jim Haywood was really Harold Allen, a salesman for Whitney's Sporting Goods in Denver. He did casting demonstrations and wrote outdoor columns for the Denver Post under the assumed name of Jim Haywood "The Roving Fisherman". Phillipson produced bamboo fly and spinning rods which sold under the the Haywood name.

Here's a picture of your man.

Ricks Rods has a 7' Haywood Zephyr bamboo rod for sale for $225. The fittings and wraps are different from yours.

This rod reminds me a little of a Whitney Supreme which was an 8 or 8 1/2' 5 weight that Phillipson built but marketed under the Whitney name. Different wraps however and the reel seat looks unlike any Phillipson I've ever seen

How many ounces does the rod weigh?

Rod with light tip weighs 5.3oz. Doesn't have Phillipson's purple glue lines and I don't think they built any swelled butt rods. I had a Haywood Zephyr for a while, it's a spin/fly. Not sure if the rod weight means anything, my understanding is that's usually the weight of the unfinished blank. Don't quote me on that, I've been wrong lots of times. Just now out of curiosity I weighed a 9' Winston marked 4 3/4 and it came in at 5oz. I'll see if the Whitney Supreme turns up anything on a search. Thanks for the reply

Scratching my head over the rod weights. Weighed a 7030 and it came in right on 3.01oz with one tip 2.99oz with the 2nd. It's a DeBell with one Granger tip and one Phillipson. I'm done weighing rods for the day, looks like a rabbit hole I don't need to go down right now.

What's your Granger 7030 like. What line? I have a 8642, 9050 and 9660 Grangers but have yet to cast one of the short ones. My fav is the 8'6" Granger but the 9 footers are great in a float tube.

I have a 7'6" Phillipson impregnated rod and it's a 5 weight.

It's marked as a 5wt and handles that fine but a 333 4wt feels nicer on it to me. I've lawn casted it with a 3 and that's just a bit light for me. It's got a grip built with 1/16 in gaps between the rings so you can feel it flex in your hand with a decent fish on. It's a nice light clean little rod, doesn't get enough use these days.
I've got an 8040 too and that one wants a 6wt in my hand. The 1ft difference is major, it feels like it would be a good bass or carp rod.

I submitted the pictures to the Classic Rod forum, and they agree with you. Union Hardware for sure.
Thanks

Don't have a Union Hardware, how about a Laurentian. I think it's close to the same era
