A belated TR from early August. I'd promised one, but didn't end up taking many pics, or using the fly rod as much as I wanted, but here goes:
Root Bay, far western end of Lake St. Joseph, Ontario. The lake is known for big pike, but apparently not the part we were on, of this 92 mile long, 190 sq mile, special regs lake. Not really good pike habitat, which was fine as we (my sibs & I) primarily go to ON for walleye.
The flight in
View from the dock
Running out to a walleye spot
Many hundreds of nice walleye caught; here's a double. Mine is the one on the hand-tied blue bunny strip jig
An orange barred bunny jig was money for a while, until the only really big pike I saw that week shot out of a rock pile as I picked up to cast, launched itself out of the water 3 feet from the boat, and cleanly bit it off my line in mid air, lol!
My hubby with a nice 'eye below the dam
A shipwreck up on shore. Maybe a 25-30' boat, circa 1950s judging by some metal fittings. No idea how it would have gotten up there! Brother and I had to go explore it, of course
A forum member had sent me some pike flies to try, so I did my best to get them in toothy faces, and had some luck. There were pike around, but nearly all only in the mid to upper 20s. I think they may have actually been afraid of the bigger musky flies I got from Randy, lol! (I think that last pic is one of his, tho)
Sunrise on the last day
