Before you use heat Lue grab the ferrule end of the tip section and buggy whip it back and forth to see if you can flex the set out. Many times, this is all you need to do for a minor set. You can even lawn cast it to see if that will help first.

If necessary to add heat, try a hair dryer first then bend the set opposite of its direction and hold it for a minute while it cools in the corrected position.

Another method is to lay the section on a piece of wood or cardboard and place pins over correctin the set and let the rod sit for a few days to see it that might do the trick.

Orvis's Tom Rosenbauer spoke in his blog about an unnamed graphite rod (best guess is that it was an Orvis rod, LOL!) that he left strung up leaning against the wall of a cabin he was visiting. He didn't get back there for a year, and the rod was still there. He picked it up and was surprised that there was no set at all.

Go really low and slow with that heat. DoNOT get the rod so hot that you cant touch it. Just warm the set area while rotating and sliding it back and forth above a heat gun or hair drier then bend it the opposite direction and hold til cool. If you are careful and patient you can fix the set and not even harm the varnish on a finished rod...Good luck
