generally searuns will hang over "not mud" so if there is sand there has to be structure in the sand or funnelling channels to build an ambush site. The more rapid the tide moves, the firmer the sand will be beneath your feet. Short answer is yes, wading, no problem. The bizarre factor was the number of crabs moving over the feet etc, most of 'em looked legal

You can definitely catch searuns over mud.
Just use caution when fishing in an area that you might think would be an issue.
I say this having sunk up to nearly my crotch on one occasion and it was not an enjoyable experience to say the least. It actually freaked me out.
Wade slow and cautiously. As @nailbender once told me, you don’t want to wade where snowshoes are required. I always take that wisdom to heart when wading in areas I don’t know well that might pose an issue or that look stretchy.
There can also be eel grass beds near those muddy areas, which searuns love to hang out in.
