Each year for the last 36 years in late March, early April when the redbuds and dogwoods bloom I head to my holy place, an Army Corp reservoir that straddles the TN/KY border where smallmouths grow very big, in fact the world record came from this lake, Dale Hollow.

Buddy Gary, 81 years young still whips through a bunch of crappies and sunfish in no time:

And fries 'em up to a perfect crispness:

And still climbs to the top of the highest ridge to forage for these:

We have special to us isolated and remote places where we prepare a mid-day lunch and relax:

Love morels. Had a spot in northeast Oregon where I could have picked more every day than we could eat .
