Indian Heaven Wilderness

I helped a buddy who is a hatchery manager stock some fish into Indian Heaven.
For those who just want the important info… there were NO mosquitos!

We hiked into a few lakes that were about 5 miles from the trailhead.


The fish we stocked were Brook Trout.



There are a lot of lakes in Indian Heaven that have fish in them. They can hold Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout and Westslope Cutthroat.
Most of the fish you catch are in the 8”-11” range.

Oxygen is put into the container. As long as the container is air/water tight, the fish are good for a few hours. The hatchery folks also have formulas for how much water and fish per pound for the containers.

Interesting. I didn't think the Department stocked brook trout any longer due to their tendency to over populate a lake and stunt into pinheads. Obviously they do pretty well in certain lakes.
