I like Ants

I fished what I call my mountain ant this morning. Black and rusty hares ear w/ a turn of brown hackle (which is better I think than this black I grabbed in the shadows today) in sz. 16. In the tumbling upper stream reaches this fishes better than other patterns I've tried. Top dropper fly.

Great idea Rudy. Recently added three rows of hard bodied ants to my terrestrial box. Maybe I'll fish them this summer in the driftless...

Hard bodied black ants are probably the most effective pattern you can fish in alpine lakes. Just sink one and as the cruisers swim by one will invariably grab. Brings back happy memories from my Colorado childhood.

Ants are hella fun on Paulina Lake, tossing them a few feet from the shoreline where the trees come down...doesn't get much funner
