Hopefully a new plan for Steelhead management

The Nooksack could certainly benefit from the Broodstock program.

I couldn’t imagine what a Samish river steelhead fishery would look like though. I’ve fished it a few times for cutties but most of the time it’s open the snaggers and flossers flock to it.

Quicksilver hit the streets in 2020; another victim of covid?

While TU had a representative on the Ad hoc Puget Sound steelhead advisory group Joihn Mc Milan was not a member of the advisory group. Document in Phil's link does list the members. It was diverse group with representatives across the steelhead world. A hard working group that spent more than a 100 hours in meetings over two years .

I can't emphasis how hard that core worked. The group was originally 15 members; one dropped out before the first meeting and a second after the first meeting. The other 13 saw it to the bitter end. Thy met 18 times with the typical meeting running for noon to 7 PM with a hour for dinner break. After the first meeting we were given a background reading list of steelhead papers/reports etc. that total nearly 1,000 pages. Also had a number of conference calls. For the first dozen meeting the first 3 hours were presentations of various steelhead experts with amble time for questions and discussion. After dinner the group worked on building the blocks for the final report. By the end of the project, I think it would have been safe to say to find a group of steelhead anglers that were better informed and understand steelhead and steelhead fisheries.

Jim Scott (WDFW) was the facilitator; a thankless job that often had to have seem like herding cats. The fact that diverse group could put in the hard work to produce that product in a near unanimous fashion is a testament to their and WDFW's dedication the steelhead resource and concern for the steelhead anglers.
