I can remember seeing the sturgeon fisherman below Bonneville on the Columbia using Lampreys for bait in the mid 70s. They were plentiful then and I can’t remember if there was even a limit. I believe they are now protected

Humbly trying not to derail the thread,,,are these "slime eels" in the PNW ever used as bait?


Not that I've ever seen or heard of. Off the top of my head, at least for the bait fishing I am familiar with, I can't think of a situation where I'd really feel like trying it.

I suspect those "slime eels" would be ling cod candy, but fortunately the ocean ling cod fishery is robust one does need to mess with such nonsense.
