Used spring break to make a quick two day dash east of the mountains. I fished a Sharpes 88 6 weight impregnated bamboo rod. Plenty to strength to punch out casts into the wind and the backbone to handle acrobatic rainbows. It also looks good next to a Mac and Jacks Amber Ale at the end of a day's fishing.
Spent the first day prospecting a set of very small lakes. 3.5 miles of tramping, 5 lakes fished and only one 3 pound fish to show for the effort although it nearly pulled the rod tip into the water.
Better luck the next day on a well known eastern Washington lake most of you have fished. It was calm which meant exciting sight fishing in the shallows. The best fish of the day, however came to an olive marabou nymph and a full sinking line off a dropoff.
My top fly was a size 12 olive marabou nymph. Olive marabou tied in for the tail and then wrapped up the hook to form the body with a counter rib of gold wire or gold tinsel. Simple flies are good flies. The body gets chewed up but the fish don't seem to mind.
