Visited Plug Ugly in Laconner today. Para Adams put me onto it. Saw a Steve Gobin made Granger 8040 taper bamboo fly rod for sale for $1,000. Steve's first bamboo rod was a Granger so I suppose he's got a fondness for Granger tapers.

Got excited about a $245 8' Phillipson Paragon until I examined it and realized it's single tip was down an inch or two.

Lots of Hardy and Pflueger reels, a bunch of very old Wheatley boxes and almost every edition of the Ben Paris Northwest Outdoor fishing guide.

The owner of Plug Ugly told me local author John Orrelle (Fly Reels of the Past) has died. I wanted to look Orrelle up for coffee to talk Farlow reels. Seize the day!

Dave, glad you checked the place out! Its a fun shop to browse with lots of gear that you just don't see except online but bargains are not in great supply from my experience. That 8' Phillipson if scarfed would be a nifty smaller stream rod. Did it have the same handle as my old one? Speyco & Phillipson, RMNP, July 14, 2019.jpg
