A morning trip to Luce

Life of the Party
I usually hit East Newton to target bigger fish because it’s only about 15 minutes from my house and has been fishing really well this fall, but I started thinking about Luce a couple days ago. I had fished it when I first moved to Cody three years ago and did ok, but nothing spectacular. It’s a C&R lake about 20 miles north of me and you have take a short hike (less than 1/4 mile) to get to it from the parking area. Since getting the Cruzer with the pack straps I have been looking at places that require a bit of a hike as it tends to limit the number of people fishing. Luce is a reservoir of about 50 acres and the level was down a bit, but still had plenty of water and I was hoping the fish had grown some since my last visit. I fished for about 4 hours and had a half dozen hookups with 5 in the net. The fish had definitely “grown up” since my last trip as they were all in the 19-20 inch range, fat and fought like crazy. Not huge numbers, but well worth the trip.

Not quite as scenic as the Beartooth or Yellowstone lakes, but a different kind of beauty.
