    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

The punisher lived up to its name today…..20 trout, two bass and one pumpkinseed! Very nice sized trout casting and stripping a black flashy leech, other 8 on the bobber on Ugly Stik II. Tom video’d the best trout making my Hardy Featherweight sing! Might post that later….great day in the sunshine!

Nope….I used to use Flex Coat but now Threadmaster high build, one coat. It’s your rod, do what you want to….

    It never gets old

Sad but I wonder if the fish think bright indicators are emerging powerbait?? Lots of bobber strikes in bait lakes…..

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

Well I really didn’t “punish” the trout today….I devirginized it with 18 trout, 1 bass, 1 nice crappie and 1 bluegill for a slam! All on emergers sight casting. The rod did great but the reelseat didn’t like the Pflueger foot….fell off quite a few times…..replace with a Hardy! I couldn’t tell...

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

Well with the crappy weather today…..those who know me…..Ugly Stik III is being made! Only a few hours, minimal components=retirement project! Here’s what the node looks like after cutting the branch off, then a little filing and felt pens to camouflage/blend in.

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

The tip top size went from a 5.5 to a 7…..lost about 6.5” too. I’ll tape some guides on and lawn cast it to see if it’s GE…

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

One more black bamboo Stik…..worst of the bunch so I tried to straighten it a bit over the hot stove element…..top two nodes snapped. The color of the tip sections were lighter in color, maybe too “green?” I didn’t try this before and I guess I won’t again. Crooked is better than broken!

Rod Building The Rod Building Thread

What Herkileez said, I use a small amount of clear fingernail polish from my fly tying. It works well with Threadmaster on the wraps.

    WOW Billy!!

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

27 C&R’d on the Stiks today….all sight casting midge emergers to rising rainbows! Nothing big but fun in 2’-4’ of water around Lilly pads….

    Black bamboo “ugly stick”

Isn’t it bizarre how black bamboo grows? Alternating round to flat every other node….thicker sections make a natural awesome reelseat!

Saved some for tomorrow Sam…..going emerger fishing with the Stiks!
