Salmon/Stone Fly

Cliff Wyatt of Santa Monica, California, tied this pattern to simulate the stonefly hatches found on many western rivers.

Hook - Mustad 9671, sizes 4-8

Weight (Optional) - Lead free wire

Thread - Black

Tail - Speckled guinea fowl barbs

Ribbing - Oval gold tinsel

Body - Orange chenille

Wing - Fox squirrel tail tied over the body

Hackle - Speckled guinea fowl tied on as a collar and tied back in front of the wing

hook - WFC Model 6 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 fire orange
tail - yarn flame
rib - small wire gold
body - Ice Dub claret
body hackles - dyed golden olive (2 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Camel/ 2 cups water)/neon peach (2 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Coral/2 cups water)
1st shoulder - bleached pheasant rump dyed neon peach
2nd shoulder - claret

Body - Well-marked grizzly hackle stem wrapped over a tapered gray floss underbody

Reverse wrapped with fine silver wire

Hackle - Hungarian partridge tied on as a collar and tied back

*Add a drop of crazy to the under body prior to wrapping the hackle stem body for added durability.

Interesting pattern, Norm, thanks. I wonder if one tied it without the black bead if it might not work as a glass worm?

Very nice! What dubbing did you use? Nice and buggy.
Thx. Hareline Rusty Hare's Ear. Undersized Lt Brown hackle in back, standard sz. darker brown up front.
