Not a mayfly (3 big "wing" bumps) nor caddis (legs to far back, spacing, head). Looks like a stone but short back end. No fat bottom skinny front like a dragon or damsel. Not a scud.
Ok not quite sure but a nymph of roachlike stoneflies. Not sure how to list but
Peltoperlidae

Soliperla sp. - S. sierra (the Sierra Roachfly) or S. thyra (the California Roachfly)

there was a montana field guide online that came up as well but I lost it

Wonder if that is what the little green stoneflies look like in my local mountain thin blue line??

Tom-You just about got it.

Order - Plecoptera
Family - Peltoperlidae
Genus - Soliperla
Life Stage - nymph

It's probably Soliperla thyra but not all the nymphs have been described yet for this genus. There is a paper that describes known nymphs.
Thank you Mark, this really has helped me start to recognize more and realize how many bugs can be in the water. I think it helps my fishing.
