Restocked the erpobdella leeches, and wanted to try some variants with “eggs”.

Also found a nice new hook, not sproat or perfect bend but a O’Shannesey bend in a small streamer. I have a lot of confidence in that style to hold when clipped barbless but could never find them in small sizes.

I've also used sliced Swiss straw for wing cases. Especially fond of the copper color.

Didn’t have decent hen hackle to partner up with the grizzly so I used a very webby ginger saddle.
Here’s the SBS from a while back, if you’re interested; again, thanks to Photobucket for screwing up my stuff pre-2017.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - Uni 6/0 camel
tail - moose body hair
rib - tying thread
abdomen - deer hair
wing - Congo Hair white
thorax - dubbing hare’s ear
hackle(s) - grizzly/ginger

Regards,
Scott
Scott,
I love the way that ribbed deer hair body looks. Do you tie the hair toward the eye, then reverse it....or tie it toward the bend and then trim all the free ends? If I'm a trout, I'm a goner if I see that floating above me!
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks. I spin it at about the 2/3 mark on the shank, wrap to the bend and then back; this SBS shows the sequence.

Scott

A few minor changes to Mr Jackson’s version. Could have skipped the grizzly hen; the pheasant rump was enough.

thread - Danville 6/0 olive
tail - pheasant tail
rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing cream
body hackle - badger
1st shoulder - grizzly hen dyed golden olive
2nd shoulder - pheasant rump dyed golden olive

Took my own advise and skipped the grizzly hen shoulder in favor of the pheasant rump. Don’t usually trim muddlers in bullethead shape any more but sometimes the deer hair has other ideas.

from tying night.

always tweaking....body made of a synthetic brush I found in a bin instead of several clumps of backside bucktail. I'm noticing that the shape feels a touch more stout. swim test this weekend hopefully.
