Thanks Fin - funny how certain materials must NOT be substituted according to this expert or that expert where this other expert says use this as a substitute, eh! I'm going to try a couple more today using flashabou beneath the decorative film, just for giggles.

That's a great looking bug and I love the wing buds and do believe they can be important in a fly but I sure struggle trying to tie them in (despite watching a half dozen videos). Oh yes, @Engee did really well the other day fishing a midge with the body of stripped peacock herl.

Rootbeer - one of the guys I'm going up to BC with next week had one box full of "Rootbeer Floats" (rootbeer flashabou, copper bead, no gills) that worked really well on "Hose".
Thanks…That fly/recipe is my “substituted” take on a fly David McPhail tied on YouTube.

I tied it up, early in my starting this hobby, around 2011 (I believe).

Tied here as a PMD. I have friends coming to MT this summer and, crowds permitting, I was going to meet them at a tailwater for a few days of classy, match-the-hatch fishing, so stuff like this should work (then we’ll go to the east slope and I’ll let them throw foam things at cutts for a change of pace). Here’s the video if you’re interested.

hook - WFC Model 3 #16
thread - Uni 8/0 pale yellow
shuck - Congo Hair brown
abdomen - tying thread
wingpad - 1mm foam tan
thorax - Orvis Spectrablend PMD
hackle - ginger

Regards,
Scott
I've had some good sessions using this pattern as PMD and BWO here in CO.

@Zak and @Matt B here is my waltz. Size 16 and 14 (both 3.5mm beads), one with copper rib and one with krystal flash rib IMG_0256.JPGHere is a normal caddis larva that i see in my river

pretty close resemblence. You have the ribbing with a tanish body with a black head. I don't think fish care about the legs but see the two tone colors and think its an insect.

Didn’t have decent hen hackle to partner up with the grizzly so I used a very webby ginger saddle.

The badger(?) hackle has a nice effect easily seen against the tight gold body. Good looking contrast too and pleasantly small hotspot. Look forward to a picture of the many catches.
