What's the one fly that has accounted for them most fish in lakes for you? Pictures for bonus points. Sometimes I spun out and can't decide what pattern to tie. Mine is a seal bugger.

First bought them from Gary at the Morning Hatch when I started fly fishing.
Grizzly Marabou tail - Olive / black or brown / black
Variegated Chenille body - Olive / black or brown / black
Olive or Brown Grizzly Hackle

Yeah trout, Olive willy is a good one. I have quiet a few of those. My buddy was doing good one trip with something he was calling a calico bugger. Sounds similar to what @Stonedfish is talking about. After that trip he was searching high and low for some of that long out of production chenille. I like those @Billy. Crayfish weren't really on my radar for trout. Another favorite of mine is the Stillwater nymph.

I have caught more trout(and Kokanee) on this fly than any other. Mayfly emerger.

If I was limited to one and only one fly and not allowed to change the fly depending on the lake I was going to fish it would be a chironomid. Probably a #16 black and red with a white bead.

Size 10 and fat for dragon fly nymph.
Size 14 and skinny for damsel nymph

Brahma buggers include endless variaiton possibilities. They are slowly replacing regular buggers in my lake boxes.

Flat out most dependable lake fly? Olive Willy by far. Seldom start fishing without one on each of my three flyrods...floater, intermediate, and type 3 sinker.
On so many outings I simply have no reason to switch to anything else, unless I just want to experiment with what other patterns they'll also hit.

My lake fishing skews toward walk in foothills ponds but my answer is orange, gray and olive soft hackles. Love the Olive Willy too.
