The annual report, with a smile!

As the day approaches, and life is a new normal, and every day is a blessing, I couldn't sleep! It felt just like when I was a child, anticipation...

The "effect" forecast was kicking into overdrive! And since a friend (@Buzzy ) said maybe I should leave early just to get over the pass, I listened. When I crossed White Pass there was only a 3 foot snow burm at the gate to the "secret" lake (@FishyJere ) , when I came home Saturday there was a 6 foot burm, I guess the "effect " worked after I left home!

I always long for a "new" spring, with the slow transformation and life anew in the desert. The smells, the sights, the sounds and the laughter. Old friends reunited, new friends being met (@Wayne Kohan @Buzzy @Bakerite @LBL @skyriver ) and made just add to the anticipation that just makes my adhd mind jump into full throttle, like Angus Young on stage.

So, the excitement was met with reality! This year's opening week was good! Water had visibly of 8+ feet and temperature of 42. Those same numbers didn't happen until the 11th last year. The fish were healthy, and the average length was 14.5, biggest was 17.5, smallest was 11. Bug life was good, the bulk of the chironomids were 18- (some way minus!) Some nice damsel nymph and bloodworm.

The weather was interesting. We had a low of 19 degrees and high of 65 degrees. We had WIND for several days high sustained at 43 and numerous days and nights of 30+ sustained. The desert was greening up beautifully, with many of the pretty delicate flowers coming to life.

Another great time spent with family, including Dad again! He rolls in and out and catches us on the 2 days!

15 days in the lake this year, not bad. Off to an uncle 90th birthday, then off to Texas, to see the granddaughters and the full solar eclipse!

On a side note, the parking lot construction project will probably be going until maybe mid summer, depending on any delays.

Wishing you all many tight lines this coming year!

Shawn

On another side note, the "cookie swap" was again fun. But, we found a couple of places to eat and shop for pastry's, in Mattawa, so if your in the area and need to eat ( Tacos La Parrillar ) or get goodies ( La Popular and Panadería Tati's Bakery ).

A different morning view... good to be home!
My wife thought you and your dad could be brothers! ;-) She also said "we should drive down to Mattawa" (I'm pretty sure the pastries might have influenced her comment). It was great to meet you, Shawn, long overdue! I also enjoyed the vibe between you and your friends. Thank you for the beanie; it looks like the Effect™ will affect Basin weather later this week and I will be able to wear the beanie out fishing!
