What's in your vise?

I like those tabbed eyes you're using.
Thx.

I really really hope they last, because I've tied a ton of flies with them now. Of course if they don't, it'll be easy enough to just glue on eyes.

Very trout Spey and lake fly looking. Recipe please.
Thanks! Everett Caryl of Spokane originated it.

Some nonlead wire wrapped over the front third of the hook, pheasant rump tail (mine is a little too long, I think), brown olive dubbed body (I used seal but the originator also used angora goat), pheasant rump hackle (mine is dyed yellow/green), pheasant rump after shaft head (I added that to the recipe).

Trimming out the collar underneath is optional (and why I always carry scissors on stream); if it doesn’t float properly it’ll get a haircut on the bottom.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Uni 6/0 black
tail - yarn sunburst
rib - tying thread
body - deer hair
wing - Congo Hair shiner tan
shoulder - pheasant rump
collar/head - deer hair

Scott

Modified Gartside Sparrow in olive. Used peacock semi seal and red ice dub under the front hackle. As the fly is fished, the ice dub ”bleeds” into the body. Haven’t fished it on moving water yet but fish in several lakes that I fished last summer loved it on a stripped retrieve with a sink 5 line.

Years ago I had a good day fishing the original HF hopper for browns on a nice tributary to the Firehole; mine weren’t nearly as nice as Mr. Lawson’s but the fish didn’t care. With this version, it’s easier to get a more durable extended body using the mono core than letting the hair butts hang in the air off the back of the hook; subbed on the wing and legs for ease of tying and durability, again. Funny to mention durability twice since a bullethead is usually good for a fish or two before it looks like a blown dandelion.

hook - WFC Model 28 #8
thread - UTC 140 tan
core - 12lb mono
rib - tying thread
body - deer hair
wing - landscape fabric
head - deer hair
legs - medium rubber brown
indicator - 2mm foam orange

Scott
