Coq de leon, hares ear, two turns blue dun straggle string, silver wire and 3.3mm bead on sz. 12. Kinda looks like some of the other stuff in my recent samples. I'd go smaller but need smaller beads in this color.

A Z-Man Turd or other ned rig plastics are my go-to smallmouth gear baits. Have also caught walleye and catfish on them. Been trying to develop a fly that would behave the same. That is set vertically on the bottom. Have foam cylinders sitting on my desk from tying Boobies, which led to this prototype "ned rig fly". This one is brown and I will make some in purple, tan, and peacock.
View attachment 94405 Hook: U104 #4
Weight: 3/16th tungsten bead (silver) + 5 turns .025 lead jammed into the bead
Thread: 140 D UTC
Extension: 25# Super Butt mono doubled over.
Body: Brown Ice Dub Chenille
Floatation: 4 mm foam cylinder black
Sorry for the late reply!
A similar method I tried out this last spring - got a couple to eat one on an otherwise skunky day in the basin.
The Z-Man ned rig jig hook makes these pretty easy:

Not sure what's in the vice, but I suspect olive simiseal and also white icedub leeches/nymphs with a bead. My dol said he's really been excited since our outing.
