What's Catching You Fish?

Well @Long_Rod_Silvers , I voted no in the October pole, but gotta admit that wet wading on a fall afternoon swinging caddis imitations is hard to beat.
I fished the hammerdown stimulator in October dress on the top dropper. Wrong hair as it doesn't float too well, but I kept the line kinda tight, and man the fish dug it. Proof of concept, drifted and skated!

Fished a bird of prey on the middle dropper to anchor the rig and get some depth.

OK, I really dislike that I have to pick so many burrs and seeds out of my slacks, but the fish are so pretty.

On the tail was a pheasant and partridge softhackle swinging around.

October rocks even if I do mark another year later.

My brother in law was out from Colorado this past week and wanted to try tidewater salmon fishing. Conditions were less than ideal with all the rain but we did manage to fool a couple of Oregon tidewater staging coho using a Ramone salmon killer. It's a variant of the boss fly introduced by Jack Harrell of Pacific City Fly Fishing. It was developed by a family friend (named Ramone of course). It's one of Jack's favorite flies to use which is a strong endorsement!

Last year I caught two tiger trout at the Giant Cataract lake, one on a black simiseal balanced leech and one on a chironomid. Neither of the tigers were photo worthy.

Balanced leech that hangs at about a 30 degree angle (not balanced) -----^

What ate my unbalanced balanced leech ----^

What if we cross bred that beast with one of my walleye to create a super perch eater called Tiger Eye?

Lately BWO hatches have been strong and the tailwater rainbows have been responding, but the river is low and crowded. Everyone but me and my wife are nymphing and they camp in spots for hours. You get to fish one or two spots per morning. We catch 5- 10 fish per morning ranging 10-21 inches most bring 14-19.
Simple parachutes in 16-18 on 5x seem to be working as good as anything. Not a great picture but the fish stayed wet.

When it comes to leech colors I've mostly fished olive/orange or black/red. I heard reports of people fishing brown leeches but was too lazy to try another color. Then a friend at our local fly shop said he's been fishing brown leeches and doing well.

So a month ago I tied up some brown angora leeches with a little ice dub underbody. Now I can't get the darn thing off my rod. It's been pretty solid on all the Central Oregon lakes. Maybe it's just that fall is leech season but fish are eating them.

You can see a bit of the leech in these pictures...

Got a chance to fish the foam october caddis I recently posted in the vice today. Never had much luck with foam flies, but I've never had as many eats on top as I did today, certainly for this time of year.

Also fished it with a soft hackle trailer. The foam dry always took the better fish.

And it had enough floatation to work as an indicator for the small bead GRHE, but the better fish again preferred the dry.

On the way back down I realized I'd been neglecting the muddler box.
