Hi @Scottp I vaguely remember you doing a SBS, tutorial or just explaining how you tie in your muddler heads. I think you do it in a way where you dont have to trim this, am I remembering correctly?DH Muddled Hopper
Incorporates the mono core I use for Carnage style flies as opposed to the old building it on a needle technique; provides a much more stable body.
hook - WFC Model 28 #10
thread - Uni 6/0 camel
core - 9lb mono
body - deer hair
rib - tying thread
shoulder - hen grizzly dyed brown
collar/head - deer hair
Regards,
Scott
I found this one on the old WFF site. Borrowed Ryan Houston’s technique; he usually leaves his as-is but mine never turn out as good and I have to do a little trimming. I don’t tie all my muddlers like that any more but it’s still my favorite.Hi @Scottp I vaguely remember you doing a SBS, tutorial or just explaining how you tie in your muddler heads. You could also use white thread and color itView attachment 86414
First attempts at tying. The bottom two were from a kit I got and the top was just modifying the materials a bit. I only have pink and black thread so need to get some more.
Yes I just need to buy some white thread! It is yeah, I think a subtle amount seems okay not the two inches suggested. You could also use white thread and color it
Is that body tubing?

Beauties! I really like the second and third one. Do you not tie with dubbing or deer hair?? That is the cleanest vise I’ve seen in a while from someone that ties regularly.
FFS those are great first flys! My first were squirmy wormies out of shear annoyance the outfitter wouldn’t carry them. Your first winsView attachment 86414
