Switched to shank patterns with stinger hooks after missing several tuna "short strikes" on Wednesday.

Tied these in a breezy campground next day. Fished the squid all day Friday. Lost 2, landed 4 with no missed "whacks."

20231008_171350.jpgThis is a Dragonfly Nymph made from foam. I tie in lead wire under the shaft to make it have neutral buoyancy. That helps keep it out of the weeds. Hen hackle is trimmed top and bottom so side hackle resembles legs. I use a sinking line to get it on the bottom and a slooww retrieve. They hit it softly. I usually don't feel the take but watch my rod tip. When it starts bouncing I set the hook. Its produced some big trout. Crudely tied but effective..

Awesome that you provided how you fish it. Looks like a great pattern!

When I first saw @Wetswinger's fly I thought terrestrial until I read his description. Neutral bouyancy, huh! Virtually all of my dragonfly nymphs are floaters tied @Bakerite style with clipped deer hair. Gotta rethink my dragonfly nymphs! Nice one Wetswinger, watch the rod tip too!
