I think they’re called breast feathers, from this patch. I was buying those darn 10 packs for $4 and then managed to find someone with peacocks.

Once I bought what I thought was gold off Etsy, a bunch of patches that were sold as decoration. Turned out the wedding planner glued all the feathers down to felt patches and rendered them useless for tying, doh! 🤦‍♂️

You have a peacock guy? I’m jealous.

Scott

Got the idea from Arthur Macdonald’s Splithead Smidge. First try here so there’s some bugs to work out in the tying sequence.

hook - WFC Model 28 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 camel
rib - H2O Twist tan
abdomen - dubbing cinnamon
hackle - ginger
shoulder - pheasant rump
indicator - Parapost yarn hot orange
flash - large tinsel opal
collar/head - deer hair

Regards,
Scott

Looks good to me! That will fish. I like my bodies a bit shorter and thinner (see lower left in post #6233 pg. 312), copying Hughes' style, but really that's just style preference. Catch a lot of fish on ones similar to that. Nice fly.

Just a buggy little thing for the local trout ditch. Size 16 jig hook with a 4mm bead. Perfect balance of easily castable on the euro rod and ability to get down quick.

Thank you. Little bugger was hiding in that pic.
I'll tie some up like that also.

Nothing special but not bad for 2 days after rotator cuff surgery; literally tied with one arm strapped to my chest. Hardest part was re-adjusting height of tying station so I could use my hand (will have to get my wife to help me raise my chair). Won’t be doing anything intricate for a while but I can still keep my hands busy.

hook - WFC Model 6 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 black
tail - partridge
rib - medium tinsel opal
counter rib - small wire silver
body - Ice Dub hare’s ear
hackle - grizzly
shoulder - pheasant rump
collar - hen grizzly dyed Silver Doctor Blue (2 packs Koolaid Ice Blue Raspberry/1 cup water)

Regards,
Scott

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I have been putting off that surgery for a long time and got to put it off indefinitely.
