One more clouser for the Humpys. I tried some Finn Raccoon for both the body and wing plus a few strands of cerise KF.IMG_4363.jpeg

Found this style a while ago on a South African site. Got lazy and grabbed the first grizzly saddle I saw in my tying kit; even with 7 wraps around the post it came up lacking and the hen overpowered it.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 rusty dun
tail - bleached moose
body - Aussie possum
hackle - grizzly saddle (oversized by 1)/Indian hen furnace
wing post - Congo Hair white

Regards,
Scott

I wonder what a wrap of oversize partridge would do instead of the hen, like a horizontal jingler.

Partridge was a little trickier, for me, to work with; Fall Drake should be out soon in western Montana.

I've used nothing but 30lb Fireline for many years. It's limper than wire, so is likely to foul here and there for sure, but I swear by the stuff personally. Never once had a fish break it, and as Brian mentioned the ability to change out hooks is pretty nice.

I'm not a big believer that having the hook be held perfectly in line by a stiffer material really leads to more hookups anyway, so I'm fine using limper materials, but that's just me. Confidence is key as with most things out there, and for me I have full confidence in Fireline and if it ain't broke I sure the hell ain't gonna fix it.
I think the limper fireline actually imparts a really good fishy motion to a ~3” clouser. With the weight of the hook on the aft end and the weight of the eyes on the forward end, you get a nice undulating motion on the retrieve. I think the main thing is just having a retrieve that’s quick enough to keep your hook decently in line with your bucktail.

If I recall correctly, there was a pretty good discussion on the old board about hook droop on stinger clousers.
Would that be considered clouser ED? Doc, I've got droopy clousers, help me! ;)
Some folks started using lighter hooks like drop shot hooks to help eliminate it. I personally never felt it was an issue as I tend to strip fairly fast so the hook stays up in the bucktail as you mentioned.

Tied up a black and purple this time. For size reference, there is a Seven strand mini on top. I am debating on using the 1.25oz chugger head or switching to the 2oz jet head for the zucchini. I will crimp leaders so not too easy to switch on the water. I look forward to test driving some of these later this week.

Update: used the chugger on the zucchini and made another clone with the jet head.

Since my stupid little caddis-like soft hackle-ish, mini-mop worked so well the other day, figured I should whip out a few more in various colors. Another pattern that are more of "guide" flies rather than anything of beauty....gotta say though, it's kinda nice when this many takes less time than a single musky fly.

Very cool, what’s the material?

Angel hair in “cotton candy”, with some white nylon fiber, and some UV pearl and chartreuse crystal flash. Tied backwards, and then the head was jammed down over the material to make the shape. It worked well for coho today, pinks kept hitting it too, but weren’t finding the hook.
