really diggin' the oversized bead on these...

I'm still trying to figure out something that works really well, gets down quick and that I can hang an unweighted egg pattern off of. I have a few that work ok, but I really like this one with the black bead and hot spot collar!

Size 12 Hanak 450 BL, 4.5 mm tung bead, black Flashabou body, 0.2 Semperfli wire March brown, SLF prism dub. Just a slight coat of thin UV resin blotted with the fingers on the body…

I’m going to twist a few more up with different bead colors

Same sz. 12 and 4.8mm bead as @Brute with 8 turns wire. I can see this grhe getting down in winter flows with an egg, maybe even find a whitefish or two. Thread is burnt orange, fur collar.

I can't imagine how many steelhead have been caught on this fly...the first time I saw this fly it was on a hook with a down-turned eye.

When I saw Norm had posted the green butt skunk it got me thinking about my earlier days casting flies for steelhead, this pattern was no doubt one of the first I tied and fished. A real classic, at least to me. Your comment on the down turned eye got me thinking (again, thinking?) about a hook that Tiemco used to sell. It was one of my favorite hooks for steelhead flies, here's a very poorly tied skunk:

I caught quite a few steelhead using this hook with different ties. The most memorable fish was a big buck that plucked a popsicle tied on this hook while swinging through the Top of the Y.
