I've had good luck with the stones I posted the other day, and the similar ones I tied for skwallas last winter, but I really like the look of John Newbury's knuckle dragger jig. I subbed hares ear plus, partridge and simi seal 'cause that's what I have. I just snipped some hare's mask and laid it on the parchment paper and layered brown partridge on top then transferred it to the loop to dub. Pretty easy and neat technique. 20230719_063349.jpg

Bucktail jerk changer. I have no clue how Blane ties his as I've never paid all that close attention...but credit must be given where credit is due on this style of fly. This is basically the body of my standard method with the game changer segments off the back. I thought about going longer, but with this coming in at ~8.5" 9", it ended up being the perfect length I was after.

I do that technique with ostrich herls and hackle feather for a shrimp look to my steelhead flies.

I will restock after my trip, I will try to eak out another one or two flies. Down to stems and seeds.
Don't toss it. Use the back for forming heads. I use it for several clumps tied in a little tighter then reverse tie titan dubbing over it. Works very very well cause there's so much air in those fibers and you can get it to flare super easy.

Another jerk changer. While it doesn't look like it, it's at least as sparse as the black one I posted up. Only difference is 10" length and the fibers were a touch longer to get them to flare appropriately. I'm not sure if you can tell, but I really enjoy tying big shit like this....

2 more days till I can put these all to the test.
Tying some smaller ones today and tomrrpw, scared I'm gonna snap the tip on my 8 weight throwing 9"+. We'll see.

Looks cool under uv.

it's not the length, it's how sparse it is and how much water it holds (dependent more on materials plus how sparse it is).....but that on the water test is really where it's at.
