    Playing live music 2024

I’m three rehearsals out from kicking off my gig season. First up, we’re doing 90 minutes in the beer garden following the spring rodeo in Ellensburg. Then a private party (usually fun), and a week later an outdoor show at Dru Bru in Cle Elum. We’ve worked up a set-worth of new tunes and I’m...

Uh, do we name the lake? Trip report protocol?

The name of the lake isn’t the interesting part. Relating an experience is fun to share and makes for good reading.

The darker roast is good. It got real mellow and a little sweet. I would call it a crowd pleaser. The light roast of this El Salvador reminds me of coffee I got at Mela in Wenatchee this week. Their drip coffee options include a light roast that’s a little fruity with a dry finish that keeps...

    Pikeminnow on the fly

I’m not finding confirmation with online search but I’m pretty sure I learned from a USGS research bio that NPM have a basic, rather than acidic, digestive system. Any of the experts out there able to confirm? The conversation was about analyzing gut contents and the different lab processes that...

    Intermediate Line

Keep your rod tip under the surface throughout your retrieve. Should get it sinking within a few casts.

    Pikeminnow on the fly

https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/reports/creel/pikeminnow https://www.pikeminnow.org/ If I wanted to try for a payday catching Pikeminnow, I wouldn’t do it with fly gear. The award fishery zones are in the hydro system of the lower C and Snake. Big water. Not that you can’t do it with flies, but...

Makes sense. Snakes eat mice all the time.

@Nick Clayton my batches are half the size of yours. I use pint mason jars and rotate my “stock” as needed.

SFR Cold Water Canoe Capsizing - Near Fatal Event -

I assume the text in the article about both men losing their legs meant to include the words “lost control of their legs” because the follow up stated they are expected to fully recover. Anyway, some folks just won’t wear ‘em, for whatever reason they use to justify a bad choice. When I get...

These beans are particularly photogenic :). But I’m looking forward to the first cup, for sure!

    Go to lake fly?

For sure we hang on to “confidence flies” from formative experience. Another reason I like Jay Fair/Rickards patterns and materials is that the materials are excellent and the patterns are satisfying to tie. I fish simiseal leeches too, but I don’t really enjoy tying them. Top quality feathers...

    Go to lake fly?

If I had to choose a favorite all-around lake fly, it would be Rickards Stillwater Bug. But I can’t pick just one. Sometimes a micro bugger works better, like this Jay Fair pattern. And sometimes I like to present my leeches and nymphs under an indicator. Or lately I’ve been getting more...
