    Tahiti

I've had great fishing in Tetiaroa, and good fishing on Tikehau. If you're not headed to the atolls, I'd just fish for whatever grabs the fly around the reef. Big rods and flies if you're casting into the ocean outside the reef, smaller flies and rods if you're casting in the lagoon.

    NFR Rivian R1T Driven Yesterday

I'm just curious why that would be funny. Is it funny to you when other vehicles get towed?

    Giant Trevally Fly Line?

The strong core is the most important part for adult GT. I had a line break in Aitutaki. Now I bring stronger line.

Took the kids to the sand dunes south of Moses Lake to see the comet tonight.

    Methow Steelhead Opening 2024

I'm going. It's been too long since I've been able to fish steelhead. Hoping I get a good enough start to make it to my favorite spot first.

I went out by Ritzville due to the cloud forecast.

    Potholes guide recommendation?

There are some private bass lakes that the shop at Mardon can put you in touch with. I don't guide anymore (might guide again in the future - but that's a long ways off), and I don't know of any fly fishing specific guides that know potholes very well.

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

You beat me to it. He joined my facebook group, made an ass of himself, threw a tantrum and broadcast the name of a creek across the web, and quit. The epic tantrum is a fond memory...

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

I used to fish for leopard sharks when I lived in the bay area. Hooked a few bat rays incidentally, and those things pull hard and take super long runs. Landed 2 or 3 in my life. It's tricky to unhook and release them.

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

Excellent reply. This conversation comes up occasionally when people encounter truly large fish. There are a lot of situations where you can't move fish at will, no matter what rod you're using. Even if you have 20# test leader, and could "move the fish at will," it would injure trout to pull...

    Too Hot For Trout

There's actually a lot of supporting documentation for that claim. It's pretty easy to see here on the east side of the state, where it's impossible to get wildfire insurance in certain locations - and it's far more expensive when you can get it. Here's an article that details the costs more...

New Reg Proposal for a few popular trout lakes in Grant County

It was just the traditional opening and closing of lowland lakes. Enough browns are stocked to keep the population at fishable levels.

New Reg Proposal for a few popular trout lakes in Grant County

Got an email about a regulation proposal for Park, Blue, and Deep Lakes in Grant County. It would move the closing date of the lakes from September 30 to October 31 - giving us an additional month of fishing. Please take some time to submit a comment supporting this change...

    Shops newsletters, reports and... hotspotting?

I had a guy blast out the name of a creek that used to be a very tightly guarded secret just because I mentioned that he technically needed a BLM permit to guide there. I even said that the BLM wasn't enforcing that rule and that nobody else who guided there had the permit either. Dude came...

    Shops newsletters, reports and... hotspotting?

Anything and everything you say in the company of fly fishers (or old men - including myself) will be challenged or at least used to give grief.
