Those do sound like Daphnia. I was at a west side lake yesterday that has a big population. Invisible until you stick a white paddle in the water and then they are clearly visible in large numbers. About the size of a poppy seed, purple in color, and they have a distinctive darting motion...
Close to home: 2006 TJ Unlimited aka "LJ". Extra 10" of wheelbase vs a regular TJ allows a 29er to fit in the bed, or an 11 foot Hobie inflatable rolled up.
