2023 Garden Thread

Another package in the mail today. 20230125_121002.jpg
Exited to try the candy roaster as a pumpkin pie filling, said to be way better then pumpkin.

No heat habanero for hot sauce base ferment, then will add super hots to bring heat to desired level, or just have the option for a mild sauce when needed.

Carrots are supposed to store in ground successfully all winter.

Still getting fresh Brussels Sprouts out of the garden.
A few outside leaves are worse for the wear, but still tight and very flavorful.

:)
Very much a winner crop for us, so will plant again next summer.

I used starts from our local organic farmstand...
It was late July or early August when I planted them. They needed regular water with the dry Fall, but not much else.
Been completely buried in snow twice so far.

I'll have to try these this year.

They are big plants that take a while, but productive if you like Brussels...
We did a spring crop of other veg in the same bed, harvested that in July, ammended the soils and planted them.
Good use of bed space if you have it.

We are in the middle of the growing season here in Butte. I would try to plant something, but it was a little chilly yesterday. Minus 27. The ground is still a little hard and there is a white covering on the ground. Strange as that covering has been there since November last year. It has warmed up a little so far today the temp is still below ZERO. Minus 11. This is not a joke. 😭 😭

I noticed that the seed prices are quite a bit higher than in the past
A few of my orders had live items that won't be shipped till March or April like russian comfrey crowns or potatos, but I paid for it all initially. Seeds have gone up a bit though. I was thinking about doing a seed swap on here? I'll post tomatoes now... If anyone wants tomato seeds the first 11 I have gobs of. The rest I can spare a couple.

Good amount of bee activity today.
For the love of god, my lawn could almost use a mow….:geek:

I hate lawns...
Did I ever mention that before ?
Typical lawn maintenance here in the PNW wetside says cut once in February to even things up (and it picks up the accumulated debris as well), twice in March.

Lawns are the Dallas Cowboys of the landscape.
