With both of us retired, and possessing two paid off IC vehicles with a couple of hundred thousand miles of remaining vehicle life, it would take an awful lot of fuel savings to justify forking over the cost of an EV...but I don't doubt for a minute that EVs are the future of personal transportation.

I totally agree! Compact, hybrid, small truck, big truck, SUV or EV it is nice to have all these choices to fit our individual needs and beliefs. I just noticed that Mobile oil was profiting 6.3 million dollars per hour last year (56 BILLION) when we were paying some pretty high prices per gallon. My consumption and contribution to that groups pot of gold is cut considerably with the addition of the EV.
The savings in the short term are pretty hefty. The difference in driving my F150 (19mpg) and my Tesla is an order of magnitude, 10 times as cheap. I go from 30 cents per mile to 2.6 cents. That flat adds up fast. I have the joy of passing gas stations offering gasoline at only $5.00 a gallon.
And I agree with Evan, this is no longer entry level technology. These things are now decent and heading for better.

I'm also one who lives by two wheels year round. I have mixed feelings about the electric revolution in bikes. For off-road I think it will grow the sport of trail and enduro riding and be more welcome among different use groups. A quiet ohv area would be pretty cool and could likely coexist with hikers and other users more easily. Alta and KTM are already making serviceable off-road stuff. The street stuff I must admit I don't know how quiet I want to be. I'm not a loud pipes guy and gravitate to rally/Dakar style bikes in general but some auditory warning is good for a rider. The electric dirt bikes are scary fast and kinda a trip to ride. Instant tractable power that will loop you silently. Strange to be sure.

I may end up with something else, but I wanted to at least have the option of getting one of these two when they hit production and are available.
