People die every day from a heart attack. He died on the field and they brought him back. I thought that all players had physicals Nothing showed up on his or he had something go wrong with his heart. Or maybe seeing this in person in front of the the payers caused all the drama.

Now somebody will call me out for being open, but it's the truth.

If what we’re hearing is true not a good look for the league. Gave them 5 minutes to warm up and start playing again? F THAT! Credit to McDermott and Taylor for saying NO!
Seriously. I don't pay much attention to the NFL but I think this is it for me. I'm going to full-on boycott the NFL. I was already about to after the Tua Tagovailoa 2 concussions in a week nightmare, but that fact that they even considered restarting this game is so disgusting to me.

Jim,
I'm obviously not a doctor, but I wonder if this may have been the cause of last nights incident.
He did take a shot to the chest from the receiver when he tackled him.
SF

Thankfully, the EMTs were able to respond so quickly. Not everyone is afforded that opportunity.

Not a medical professional but I believe anyone can experience this if hit in the chest in the right manner with right amount of force. Would like some input from members here who are nurses and MDs.

Sounds like it was a bogus rumor:

“I’m not sure where that came from,” Vincent said. “Frankly, there was no time period for the players to get warmed up. Frankly, the only thing that we asked was that [referee] Shawn [Smith] communicate with both head coaches to make sure they had the proper time inside the locker room to discuss what they felt like was best. So I’m not sure where that came from. Five-minute warmup never crossed my mind, personally. And I was the one . . . that was communicating with the Commissioner. We never, frankly, it never crossed our mind to talk about warming up to resume play. That’s ridiculous. That’s insensitive. And that’s not a place that we should ever be in.”

Pretty sure that was Mike Leache’s fate
15 minutes
I don't know the finite details of either case, but I do know that "heart failure" is more of an umbrella term.

The NFL ignoring and then lying about a player safety issue? If only there was something in the past that we could look at to help us with some context as to if the NFL has a history of being truthful. {checks notes} Oh, well I guess there was this little thing. Okay, sure. But it's not like the NFL has recently let a game continue after a player got taken away in an ambulance due to a terrifying injury. The last time that happened was at least {checks notes} three months ago.

In any case, I'll be fucked if I'm going to believe someone who uses "frankly" three times in one paragraph. That sounds like someone who is trying hard to sound #VERYSINCERE.

Occam's Razor rules the day here.

Heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest are different. I don't remember what the difference is other than people recover from heart attacks all the time but very few ever recover from sudden cardiac arrest.

At one point in time, all sport coaches in our district had to take some training on how to use the AED. It was required to be present at all times when athletes were participating in practice or competition. Prior to going through "player safety training" I had never heard the term sudden cardiac arrest, but it dominated most of the training.

This is one doctor's thoughts...

"Clean up, aisle 9!"

Next thing you know Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are going to issue statements or hostage videos where they apologize for misspeaking.

Vincent is equivocating because this all went down long before the teams went to the locker rooms. If resuming play never crossed their mind, why did it take over an hour to postpone the game?

Now, I could see if they were delaying because they didn't want the ambulance to get stuck in stadium traffic. Or if they weren't prepared for the fans to leave safely and needed to get people into position who weren't expecting to need to be ready for another few hours. But if that stuff is the case, just say it. People would understand.

Most likely, the league (or some number of league folks) wanted the game to go on just like the Tua game did and it took an hour for cooler heads to prevail. Or probably, to realize that the coaches had taken matters into their own hands and there was nothing they could do but call off the game.

In an obvious effort to deflect and protect the integrity of the game the NFL is now sayin the game will not be resumed this week and the week 18 schedule will not be changed. Sure hope none of the owners lose any money due to this tragedy.

Coaches and players.

You make a great point, but you have more faith than me in believing people would understand. Once it is announced …I believe 1000’s would try to exit, even if they were asked to stay for a short time.

I wasn't watching when this happened but I have followed it since I heard the news. I am not a Twitter guy but since it seemed like Twitter was the easiest way to keep up with things I fired it up for the first time in many years. Holy shit, talk about seeing the worst of humanity on my cell screen! Just unbelievable some of the things I read.

As far as everything I watched and read, I enjoyed Ryan Clark's stuff the most. That guy sure does a good job of relating this stuff to those of us who never really played the game, and certainly not at that level. I really enjoy his takes on all of this. Seems like a really good dude who is not afraid to just open up and let people know how he feels.

Twitter is, and always has been a cesspool of idiots , where the worst of the worst congregate to seek their 15 seconds of fame there, each looking to be more outrageous and disgusting than the last outrageous and disgusting post.
Last night was typical, and clearly the bots and trolls were only outnumbered by the morons with no life.
:(

I definitely knew this, even after not looking at Twitter in many years. Still, I was shocked at the number of people using this as a springboard to push a political agenda. Definitely won't be looking at more of that bullshit moving forward.
