Looking at the Mariners record over the last twenty plus years including the seven years Dipoto has been the GM Mariners‘ fans might have reason to be skeptical. If the Mariners make to the playoffs this year it will be the first Dipoto built team to make it there including his tenure at the Angels.
Thought that just got blamed on the CEO. LOL!

Hard to make a case for the M's, considering they have pretty much sucked for most of their existence.

It's not like they have a glorious past, with rows of pennants from Championships adorning the stadium.

To put it in perspective, when @Old Man was a young man .... well they sucked back then too.

:)

He built the 2014 Angels. They won 98 games and their division.

They won 90 games last year. They are on pace for 92-93 this year. They are 515-491 with him in charge. He inherited a talentless major league club with a talentless minor league system. It's hard for me to see how he has done anything but succeed.

I guess you can give him credit for that team. I thought he had resigned in 2014 but see it was 2015.

I just felt the earth shake...
Why? I have given Dipoto credit before. You don’t want to see that so you pretend it didn’t happen. Apparently it only took him 3 years to produce a winner in LA but he inherited a decent team to start. He had a decent team to start in Seattle despite what Charles says. He actually took that Seattle team and improved their record when he took over. But, 6 years later and the Mariners have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time in twenty years. If it takes 6 years to build a team so be it. I’ll sing Dipoto’s praises again if that happens.

M's looked like the M's today...

Errors....they are contagious.

I love the new rules. The shift rule will help bring the single back into the game.

I hate that a rule had to be made (learn to hit to the opposite field), but since it has been, it should help the game. Also suspect launch angle will not be as big a deal now since you don't have to get the ball in the air to beat a shift, so maybe few fly ball outs, at least for the contact-type hitters.

Will be interesting to see what happens with stolen bases, only being able to throw over twice should shift the advantage to the baserunner, though you may actually see more pickoffs since runners may try and bait pitchers with longer leads to throw over and use up there attempts.

cheers
