NFR Dash Cams?

Ok...I put the NFR on this so @Old Man doesn't get pissed. If you're reading this Jim...why? :)

I want a dash cam and I don't want to break the bank - under $100.
Amazon has too fucking many to choose from and I'm getting paralyzed by indecision. Any recommendations?
I'll probably end this thread after ten replies so I won't have too many choices!!!

What the hell is going on. Get pissed at Old Man Jim week.
 
Front and back. Got it on both ends. Bummer. Looks like the cab saved him.
 
Need camera in the back also for all the tailgaters. Seems like drivers have become more aggressive lately. Maybe there are fewer state patrol officers out? I drive like a grandpa because, well, I am one and set the cruise at 69 or 70.
 
So it looks like I'll have to be the guinea pig...

Kinda like the tailgate assist torsion spring.......

I've thought about a dash cam from time to time but haven't researched them at all. Good luck.
 
Garmin Mini because if it fails in the next year the company will still be around. I have a cheap one that hasn’t failed but the company is long gone, so know your risk.

Something to think about, do you want internal or external cable routing? I did internal and built a quick fuse relay, these can be purchased too. Power is easily found in the plastics near the rearview mirror/headrest on most modern vehicles for top of windshield mount.

Can also use an old phone as a quick hack.

Not worried about the rear cam. I just want a portable that I can move from car to car...all in one with a power port supply or something.

If you’re moving it a lot the Garmin comes with a USB power in the box as standard. Since most users won’t want to wire in something.

It’s a nice little unit, compact I’ll be buying it once this one fails. Or as an XMas gift.

I try to find a back road off the highways and the Freeway. I do a pretty good job finding other ways to get around. I might just call myself the back road king. When I do drive the freeways I seldom go the limit on them. My max is about 75. I'm just not in a hurry to get anyplace any more. One day I took off out of Dillon, by the time I got home from where ever I had put 200 miles of Dirt and gravel roads on my truck. It's called exploring.
 
I’ve been rear ended three times in the last four years on Seattle’s freeways. I’ve been lucky I guess because they were all fairly minor , but maybe it’s time to think about getting both front and rear cameras… or moving somewhere else that’s a bit safer.
 
 
That crosswalk was pretty colorful.

I can't believe that the pedestrian that got hit was able to get up and walk to the side of the road.
 


Clickbait title for sure but some good info on dash cams that are available out there right now and how more money doesn't necessarily mean better quality.
