How about a non-political thread that just offers up latest research, events, without politics or snark. Metereology classes in college left me fascinated with weather, and over the decades have continued to study weather both locally and globally.
Drama headline aside, thought this is an interesting article, had never heard of the floods of 1862 that flooded the central valley and left Sacremento under ten feet of water.

Kinda like that click bait article. Be scared, because something terrible might just happen in the next 40 to 100 years!!! 😉
You don't have to be scared, but it's probably a good idea to be prepared. Here in the Gorge we have the threat of a very large earthquake in the subduction zone. Like the CA floods, its a matter of when not if. Could be tomorrow, could be a couple hundred years. The point is to prepare before it happens. We would likely be cut-off from getting out of the gorge for several days so a back up plan for food and water is a simple solution. I even bought some jungle cock eyes so I could feed my family on steelhead if need be. :ROFLMAO:

I didn't read this one but WaPo had a similar article today about flooding in Ca. Their focus was mostly that you can't stop it, but having a good forecast will be huge. At least they have plenty or reservoir capacity waiting...

Dude…you can’t ask to leave politics out of something like climate change then link to a CNN article.

Howabout this then, the original article:

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abq0995

By the way, just because its from a "news" organization someone doesn't like, doesn't make it invalid - reading and going to original sources is always a good idea, hoowabout we agree on that?

Cheers

While we're discussing climate change in a non-political way, recent research demonstrates Arctic amplification has been underestimated.

'the faster melting of sea ice and weaker ice-albedo feedback'...the primary accelerator. Less ice=less UV reflection=even less ice=even less UV reflection...the change curve increasingly vertical
.
A decade back, we visited a friend in Bellingham area who took us through a downtown exhibit that graphically mapped out the impact on WA shores at various degrees of sea rise. Stunning impact by even moderate rise.

Recently listened to a climate scientist on PBS posit an immediate step to battle increased UV would be the ejection of sulpuric acid from jets at high altitude, an idea that at the core of 'Termination Shock' by Neil Stephenson.
Unfortunately, we won't see any mass solutions untl we reach mass agreement on the problem.

That’s Vegas been badly flooded twice in the past 4 odd weeks too. It’s all gone wonky. I hope the thread stays apolitical but there’s not too much to talk about other than one climate anomaly after another. Most folks are not willin to change much of their lifestyle and so we are Donald ducked until it’s too late which it may be already

In all seriousness, and leaving our pet concerns ( fish) aside, thinking specifically of American and it's preservation. Regardless of the actions we take to try to preserve our current climate we should also be preparing Americans for a warmer climate. We cannot put all our efforts into stopping the warming.

I fully agree
We’re not going to scrub the atmosphere with a machine
We have a population issue
People living in spots they never would have thought of

X2. We can only slow it down, so it is vital we use the projected impact models to understand what actions we need to take to adapt and carry on. For every new dust bowl there will be a new growing opportunity. The wine industry is out front on climate migration, establishing new grape fields further north as far as Canada
.
As to impact decisions, after decades of fighting erosion along the southern end of Ocean Beach, SF decided it was an unwinnable battle with increasing sea levels and adopted a 'managed retreat' strategy, knowing they will over time lose blocks of ocean front properties literally worth billions.

Reality is always best faced directly.

People have been living for centuries in areas you and I wouldn't live at. Nothing new here or there, adapt or die!
