Anyone know about the big dams?

i think the likely hood of an asteroid big enough to have this effect actually IMPACTING earth in 2090 (based on technological progression) is virtually 0. We already have advanced weapon systems in space.
I was unaware of advanced weapons system in space. Got a cite for that?

you really think the great orange one made space force to NOT put weapons in space?

there were weapons in space over 50 years ago..... FYI

Indian, China, Russia, and the USA all have surface to space missile systems in place as well.

The outer space treaty only banned weapons of mass destruction from space, and its your guess or mine to which countries are following that treaty to a T.

Hayabusa2, for practical purposes, blew up an asteroid.

But as im sure you know, any modern advanced space weapons would be classified government secrets, so yea, your "PROVE IT" rebuttal is foolproof.

Didn't we have a thread like this "over there" about a different dam ??
It's hard to remember exactly. Seems we kicked a lot of shit around about the dams without solving anything.

You might or might be right, but, of course, your "well they are secret aren't they" rebuttal is foolproof. If there were space to earth weapons up there, I bet they are tungsten rods that can fall to the surface and destroy even hardened structures.

Rods From God is,what it was called... http://www.wearethemighty.com/articles/these-air-force-rods-from-god-could-hit-with-the-force-of-a-nuclear-weapon#:~:text=The "rods from god" idea, bunkers or secret underground sites.

Then, there's also the extra secret XB-37 ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_X-37

And don't forget, both the Russians and the Chinese have blown up some of their own satellites with some of their own satellites

maybe, but i dont think a space to earth weapon is gonna do much against an asteroid headed at the Sahara. Does seem like a viable option for dam removal though! :)

Many dams are automated and operated remotely. Computer control systems work well this way - but human interface with the computer controls are needed. No maintenance? No one to fuel an emergency generator? No routine inspections? No crews to troubleshoot issues? I think your question is too vague for any scientific response, there are simply far too many variables.
I remember the day I got to help escort those LCMs through the shallow sections of Hanford Reach as they made their way up from Astoria. That is not something you get to do every day.

I wonder if the Utility still has them? Do they ever get used? Run? Do they still float? Anyone certified to operate them anymore?

The first paragraph is an excerpt about Mica Dam from the book I mentioned in the previous post.
Something I didn't know and certainly raised an eyebrow.

Mica is the tallest earth filled dam in North America being about 600' above the level of the river below and backs up a huge reservoir.
