Anyone here have a really bad day on the Dechutes yesterday?

I almost had a snag fall on my head and my kid was riding my shoulders. I had a shredded meniscus at the time and still ran like Usain Bolt. After it all settled, we found my hat underneath the tree. That was a real close one.

Friend was driving on the coast where the road runs next to a high wall known for erosion issues, known to occasionally drop a rock on the side of the road...a 3x3 rock lands on the hood of his Mini Cooper, crushing the entire front of the car, driving the motor past the frame into the ground ...arriving sheriff said if he had been going just a mph faster...lotta luck involved in living, both kinds..

... so I guess there is such a thing as a bad day on the Deschutes...

No cheers for him

Someone on the forum above posted this. Someone launched their rig and went for a float near Warm Springs on the Deschutes. Considering it can't be shuttled, I can't imagine the bad day that started for them when they got to the takeout and the rig wasn't there.

Hopefully it wasn't any of you fine people that had this happen to them.

That has the makings of an extremely long day.

I returned to find my drift boat trailer with a bent roller and tongue. Was able to load the boat and get it home even though it towed at an angle. Both parts had to be replaced at my expense.

2005 Snoqualmie Pass, they weren't as lucky. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/huge-i-90-rockslide-smashes-car-kills-3-women/

I think there was a mom & son that had similar outcome on Issaquah-Hobart Rd last year. We can be as careful as possible but sometimes it's not enough.

Someone had a pretty bad day on our local stream. This is a rental boat from a local company. Dang, hope they made it out alright.

I was on the Deschutes last week, camping in my trailer rather than floating in my drift boat. Wednesday and Thursday were brutal. I ended up moving my trailer to a more sheltered campsite facing into the wind so that my vent covers wouldn’t be torn off. Usually the wind blows upstream on the river (at least in the summer and fall), but it was blowing downstream. After the move, I took a nap for the afternoon and the trailer was rocking. Years ago in my driftboat in lower Whitehorse, we had a tree crash into the river from the Warm Springs Reservation side. We pulled into camp but it was too windy to cook dinner. As I recall, we ate M&Ms and drank McNaughton’s. The fishing (and catching) last week was good, but the fish weren’t really keyed into the stoneflies yet. This golden stone seemed too be a bit confused. Not sure of the result; would it be a golden doodle salmon fly?

Looks to me like it happened at the launch so it is unlikely that they didn’t know about it before they launched. Bummer, but last week the wind was brutal on the Deschutes.

Wait. You're feeling sorry for the wrong guy. Here is what I see with that load of wood.

This wanker has blocked the launch with his rig. So the boys dragged that trash over and piled it on.

I will remember this if I find anyone blocking the launch/takeout in the future!
