Any vintage computer collectors out there?

I am doing a massive shop and barn cleanup and came across a Timex Sinclair 1000 in the original box along with a massive 16k RAM module! It was given to me as a gag gift over 25 years ago and has been resting quietly ever since. Some people like to collect old stuff and if you are one of them you can have it for the price of shipping. Otherwise it goes to the landfill along with a heap of old power tools and mechanical stuff.

I am cleaning and reorganizing every shelf, cupboard, drawer and cabinet and getting rid of a mountain of stuff. Man, it feels good to see uncluttered shelves everywhere!

Doin’ the same…deep cleanin’
It’s been too long overdue.
The “clutter stress” is easin’ a bit.

A Timex Sinclair 1000 was the first personal computer that I ever saw. The first one I owned was a Commodore 64.

Did the same thing at the start of Covid.
Made a huge Goodwill run.
I started with my clothes. Probably got rid of half of them. Funny what you find and you say to yourself “I actually wore that?” or “no way that fits me any longer”. 😂
Lots of stuff I hadn’t seen or worn in years.
Hopefully someone gets some use out of it.

My first computer, for college was a NEC 386/20 which I upgraded many times.. even a motherboard upgrade! I learned how to program on a trash 80, TRS 80, at Radio Shack in South center in junior high! I also had the original Nintendo and Colleco gaming systems and played games in college on the old mainframes.. VAX if I remember correctly!

I do have a bunch of old cellphones I'll post a picture or two of.. soon.

I see that Times Sinclair 1000 computers in the original box sell for around $50, more or less, on EBay. If no one here takes you up on your offer, that might be another way to dispose of it rather than the landfill.

I tossed all of my computers as I updated...got rid of seemingly 100s of wires and cables...but I did keep a copy of AutoCad Release 1...it is on one 5.25" floppy! I wonder if it has demagnetized?

Other than a landfill, look for a recycler. Some of those machines have metals that have value. That includes old cords, adapters - just about anything that has wires and computer peripherals . Last resort - landfill.

I recycle all my old monitors, computers, almost anything that uses electricity. And it is free. I pull up, honk the horn and they come out and unload everything. Then they say Thank You. Great experiences!

Sinclair computer, that must be 35 years old. I remember playing with one in High School. Learned a little programming on the Trash 80 too.

I managed a VAX at work for a few years. I was always chatting with the programmer of the software we used for changes and bugs. Had one lady who knew how to break the code. Don’t know how but stuff broke when she was working on her terminal.

It really is amazing how powerful computers have gotten and become so common place in the last 30 years. I doubt we would have been recycling our type writer every 5 years.
