Darrel Martin

I met Darrel at one of the first FFF Oregon Fly Tying Expos in Eugene. He taught me, Rocky and John how to tie a woven dragon fly nymph pattern. Great guy. Fantastic fly tier.... I still have the fly he tied.

I just heard the sad news that Darrel Martin passed away last week. Darrel authored several books including "Micropatterns - Tying and Fishing the Small Fly" and "The Flyfisher's Companion".
I can't find an obit or any other information about the passing of Darrel Martin. Surely such a noted and accomplished angler and writer deserves an obit. Was there one somewhere that I missed? The very brief biodata on some of his books only says that he was a retired English teacher. Where did he teach? I took a workshop from him at an FFI convention where he taught us how to make hooks, tie antique fly patterns, furl leaders, and more.

His son Michael works in the fly fishing section at Sportco in Fife. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, maybe stop by and chat with him.
