One of those celebrity-types who went out of their way to leave the world a better place in what ways they could. A saint in the same vein as Fred Rogers and Bob Ross: just trying to do good and be a positive force in the world.

She was a true humanitarian in so many ways. She donated a lot to many areas of need, especially under-privileged people. She personally gave her time that would help others for efforts close to her.

And Jolene was my favorite song of hers (full version)...

Dolly was all woman and all heart. And little known - in 2020 Dolly gifted 1M to the Vanderbuilt University Medical Center covid research team, those funds being directly credited with accelerating the development of the Moderna Covid vaccine which has saved countless lives.

whatever one thinks of her music (I think it's absolutely phenomenal even though it's not my preferred genre), one can never argue that she wasn't one of the most true to herself humanitarians of our lifetime....that's what we should all aspire to be.
 
I don't get to many concerts, but in January of 2014 we'd been fishing the Truckee and decided to stay at the Silver Legacy in Reno. One evening my wife and I were standing in front of one of the hotels restaurants, looking over their menu when a nice couple approached us and said that they'd bought tickets for themselves and another couple, but the other couple wouldn't be able to make it to Dollys show later that night at the Reno Events Center and would we be interested in the tickets. That's how we saw our one and only Dolly Parton concert. I got to tell you, fan or not, she put on a great show, and it didn't take but a song or two for my wife and I to get swept up in the energy of her performance and the crowd's upbeat attitude.
 
Dolly was funny, sexy, smart and a great song writer & player. Watching her make Johnny Carson blush while playing the guitar was awesome. I have no idea how she played that thing with those huge nails. Pure talent is the only answer.

But most of all, she was a nice human. She gave away so much of her money for awesome causes, including the Imagination Library.

One of the most impressive to me is the My People Fund where she gave $1000 per month to the 1000 families impacted by the fires of Sevier County. Her home county.
She ended up giving $12M for that one. Dolly knew what it was like to have nothing. The doctor that helped deliver her was paid with a sack of cornmeal. They had nothing. She never forgot her roots and she proved it by her actions.

Definitely 1 of 1.

I was aware of Dolly Parton's involvement in the Covid vaccine. I was not aware of the importance of her donation to it. Thank you to @SurfnFish with your post about it.

Dolly did not want any lime light about her donations. Yes, she received awards for her generosity yet she turned down potential presidential awards recently. What was important to her was the impact she made not the awards she could of received.

She supported women's rights.

She supported all of mankind regardless of politics, social or economic status, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
In addition to comments above, she provided funds to disaster relief, those affected by fire and hurricanes. Dolly Parton giving back was closely tied to where she came from and the people she hoped to help. She was so proud to have been a part of anything that's good and that's making life a little better for people.

A true treasure and one of a kind. May she RIP.
